Internationally Acclaimed Author, Journalist Sebastian Junger to Headline Greenbuild Plenary
Perhaps best known as the author of The Perfect Storm, and later, War, which chronicles the conflict in Afghanistan, Junger engages audiences with powerful, emotionally compelling and vivid portraits of the impact of the tremendous forces of nature and conflict, and the lessons we can learn from how we deal with them.
'Junger's latest book, Tribe: On Homecoming and Belonging, is a stunning wake-up call for America that transcends its intriguing premise with unexpected lessons for all of us in the trenches of modern-day life,' said Rick Fedrizzi, CEO and co-founder of USGBC. 'Drawing on the experience of 'soldiers who all but ignore differences of race, religion and politics within their platoon,' it shows how when we face adversity, humans usually come together, and in that coming together, thrive.'
'Though Junger's experiences and the situations he has witnessed are often extreme, they are also relevant to our own lives because he conveys them in a way that highlights how our natural human instincts of selflessness, loyalty and the need for meaning kick in when we are faced with difficult circumstances. We are sincerely looking forward to welcoming Sebastian to the Greenbuild stage in October,' Fedrizzi said.
This year, the Greenbuild Plenary will be held on Thursday evening, Oct. 6, instead of its traditional Wednesday slot, and is combined with the Celebration, which will take place immediately following the conclusion of the plenary at L.A. Live in Los Angeles, adjacent to the Microsoft Theater. The Plenary is sponsored by the International Well Building Institute, and the celebration is sponsored by Kohler.
Tickets to the Greenbuild Plenary and Celebration are included in the purchase price of a four-day conference pass, three-day conference pass, or a Thursday day pass. They can be purchased separately by members of the sustainable building community for $150–200 each, depending on when they are purchased.
Greenbuild registration options include Expo Hall Passes and educational one-day, three-day or four-day passes. Additional offerings include summits, LEED® workshops, tours and special events. Online attendee registration is now open and available on the Greenbuild website. Follow @Greenbuild on Twitter and tweet hashtag #Greenbuild2016 to join the conversation.
Greenbuild, owned and operated by Informa Exhibitions U.S. and Construction & Real Estate and presented by the U.S. Green Building Council, is the world's largest conference and expo dedicated to green building. The three-day conference attracts 20,000+ attendees and 600 exhibitors annually from across the green building sector, spanning commercial and residential professionals, architects, building owners and operators, students, advocates and educators. This year's conference takes place at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles from Oct. 5–7, with several pre-conference summits on Tuesday, Oct. 4.
